Les' Kitchen: A Benefit for Light Industry

Renwick Street, New York

SOLD OUT

Jeff Preiss and Zeena Parkins invite you to their home for an intimate dinner, whose proceeds will help support another season of screenings and lectures at Light Industry. Following the success of Marguerite’s Kitchen back in June, we’ll be offering a menu drawn from the various dishes featured in the films of Les Blank. Food has always been something of a star in Blank’s cinema, and we’ve spent the last few months digging around for recipes, like the one for red beans and rice he cooked during screenings of Always for Pleasure, so that the scent would waft into the theater mid-show, or the great many prepared in Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers, which were printed in a 1980 issue of Garlic Times. Working from this mouthwatering cache, chef Athena Kokoronis has made her selections, and will translate them into a supper you won’t soon forget.

As with the Duras dinner, we’ll be forgoing the usual trappings of the benefit gala—no speeches, no honorees, just a nice meal among friends. “Let’s have a good time while we’re on this earth, I guess,” remarked a polka singer in Blank’s In Heaven There Is No Beer?, “because it’s gonna be dry up there. Or down there.”

Vegetarian options available upon request.
